Through The Green Fuse Lights The Flower
An Original Poem by @CarlieEster
Through the green fuse lights the flower
Snap! Crack! Pop!
In a shower of living colour dawn marks their rising hour
Sunshine comes and dew is dryly sucked
On every stem a match is struck
and through the fuses light the flowers
Crack! Snap! Pop!
Petals pushing out with power
like metal grinding on while sparks devour
oxygen and fizzle upward arced
while God smiles at his good works
Pop! Snap! Crack!
A display of fireworks
Say hurrah and watch while stamens celebrate the end of night
sprouting such a miraculous sight
a firecracker at the edge of glee
an inferno chuckling hungrily
Each flower through the green fuse lit
a snap, a crack, a pop -
God is so amused
at what you pluck with your fingers, crush with your shoes.
Title inspired by Dylan Thomas' poem "Through The Green Fuse"
