Intoxicated by youth
And the sweet wine of first love
They took a leap
One that even the kangaroo would envy.
The butterflies egged them on
Their hearts whispered sultry notes,
So certain they were that
Their summer would never fade.

So they spoke the words,
Blood kissed blood,
The bond, woven in sisal and
Cast in steel was forged:
"I am yours forever;
I will never leave you
Or I die."

And then the butterflies died!
The curtains were yanked open.
The cold fingers of reality
Played the harp of dismay.

So it was
That they, bonded in spirit,
Were distant at heart.
They dwelt together
But lived miles apart.
Memory had forgotten
So they parted like distributaries.

Many years on
Seeking solution to dead life,
They were reminded of their bond,
Woven in sisal and cast in steel
