On its Migration Southward
I Saw the Auburn Phoenix

Overcoming that which
Stifles, the unseen red
Bird: that flitting Permission,
The renegade, the miserfool that
Crouches smirking.

Pea pods or dried seeds, the
Autumn smell that lives in the
Mosquito's bloodstream.

Feversweats, nightsquirms which
Tease the Great One, or torment
True Self in sand patterns.

I Ching that reads my
Elderly cheek lines & still the
Crimson lark perched atop a
Fence of oak.

Mountain breath, porridge of
Giants, ion-air medicine
Ripe as berries.

Cyclic forest
That cradles a pink
Egg, offspring of the
Avian jester; again the
Obsessor that quirks, clucks
Claws incessantly

Mynd within a mind within a
Star imploded, within a construct
Of imaginary architecture where
Biomes of salt, love, or
Bile sprang like tulips,
Wilted as lettuce,
Rotted into fungi,
Flew feathered
As birds &
Sang red
Joy.

On its migration southward
I saw the auburn phoenix.

I knew the first two, but not the Third.

Anyway.........I came too late into this one. But nevermind, it was interesting to read the imagery and dance of words amongst these brightly colored birds!!
thanks @d-pend

Right on, thanks @em3!

And congratulations @moeknows :)

  1. Chicken 2. Cardinal 3. Parrot

You almost got it! The first one is a Golden Pheasant...

Haha, I figured chicken wasn't right - just a guess from the shape of its head!

I really loved the imagery in this stanza. I also particularly enjoyed the verbiage as there were some new words in there for me which forced me to look deeper into the poem. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the inspiration @d-pend! :)

What an absolutely beautiful and striking bird you captured on your camera! The Auburn Phoenix is so unique and amazing. I really loved your poem. Somehow it flowed nicely throughout like the flow of southward migration. It would be nice to hear you read your poetry. I'm sure it would be such a wonderful & colorful adventure of connecting words! Thank-you! I really enjoyed it! :D

These weren't my photos actually, but whoever took them did a great job :)
I'm glad that title fit as it came to me spontaneously when I was near finished with the poem!
I've thought about uploading recordings of them, perhaps I will in the near future :D
