Take it from the top

and, again—
                   —this time less elaborate.
this time, with greater feeling.
this time, clearer—more abstract.
again & again, under then over,
      frivolity weighed against heft.
                            a searing screenplay
                 carrying exigencies of fire
                                 behind manilla lids.

                           Graphite, pixels, saline—
               work with the medium at hand.
    this time, with endless agony.
this time—with vigor—billowing hope trailing
                                     a gown of diaphanous vapor,
                                       streamlined canticle in flesh
                                 rising up from its pyramid of lime.

again calcium, again magnesium, iridium, gold:
                                                                solve et coagula.
          biochemical sophistry, sad monolith;
      this time, self-actualize on cue.
visit the interior of the earth,
               in order to rectify
                          what is discovered in darkness.
                                             once more, de novo,
                       simpler, with greater thrust.

So over the top as to be quite funny:

self-actualize on cue.
visit the interior of the earth,
in order to rectify
what is discovered in darkness.
once more, de novo,
simpler, with greater thrust.

Are these impossible demands placed upon the protagonist/artist from outside voices, unsympathetic to their quest?

Or is it the impossible-to-please inner critic, always demanding More, MORE?

Whatever the case, this spirited protest of a poem is ticklish & reads like inspired venting or a kind of sublimation of violence 🤓

Makes me feel like a lesser God being lectured after screwing up yet another universe, haha.

Such wonderfully exotic, and evocative writing, as always - all the elements are quite literally at your fingertips in this piece. This image, which in my mind makes an unsympathetic depiction of the human form, has stuck to me and I just can't shake it loose:

biochemical sophistry, sad monolith;
this time, self-actualize on cue.

In so many ways this poem reminds me of my inner dialogue when I am practicing my music or rehearsing for a show...and this line, "this time, self-actualize on cue"....definitely my daily spiritual grind ;-). Great job

very specific, very complicated, but very interesting to understand

Are you feeling overworked ... tee hee:):):) Yes, the demands on a poet are great at times to keep producing. and if you spend anytime listening to critics ... don't spend anytime listening to critics ... what is a gift becomes drudgery. That said you took those lemons and limoncello. A fine piece of art you gifted us steemians today:)Bravo:)

Minerals and biochemical sophistry, not a common choice for poetry and yet you achieved a nice poem once again. Brilliant choice of fractals to accompany the poem :)
