Polaris upon Bridgeton

in poetry •  7 years ago

I will always remember
That green fragrance
That she wore daily,
Token to her freshening presence,

I will always remember
That passing shadow,
Always stylish enough
To beckon at the attentive,
Always discrete enough
To slip by unnoticed

I will always remember
That fierce sense of purpose,
The laser-like focus
Inlaid between her eyebrows,
Yet that gentle smile
That flashed so briefly
As if destined for herself

I will always remember
That voice,
Not so much heard
Than felt,
At an octave so low
That pure thoughts could be
Expressed that way,
Without a need to ever utter one sound

I will never forget
That deft assortment
Of the rainbow colors,
A good deed indeed
In this dull environment,
Particularly the cobalt blue
And the warm orange,
Hues dear to my heart for reasons unknown

Contracts will come,
Colleagues will go,
But I am in no hurry
Of that fateful day
When that morning star
Will dawn on yet another
Faraway blessed horizon,
Returning Bridgeton
To its forlorn gloom,

Thank you for bringing so much life
in this God Forsaken place.

May you stay in here some more.
