The thing from the pit
Humans are social creatures.
You tried to flee the pain but were driven into a trap,
A pit without connection.
Can you claw your way up the sides?
But they'll know what you are:
Not one of them, but a shriveled up thing from the pit
Crawling up to torment them.
So they'll beat you back down.
A beating you can't endure,
Especially not after struggling up uncertain walls.
So you stay there, safe, alone,
Which still hurts, but not as sharply.
The above is my entry for the Steemit Poetry Contest #11 on the theme of Loneliness.
Had to read the poem close to three times to really get the message hidden in your lines. Your imagery is really an unsual one, unusual in the sense that it's not an everyday scenario which makes the poem even more valuable. It was close to the end (second to the last line, that is) that the message in your piece was revealed.
It's a good one.
