A Dark Prophecy

in poetry •  7 years ago

I came across this article about deep learning and how scientists are creating the ability for machines to think and create, and it got me to thinking. What is really going on? This is a work of fantasy.

                               A DARK PROPHECY

They worried that technology would flip the economy
Machines replacing men, replacing industry
That those who built them would become overlords
And the masses would be at their pleasure

But the ones with the bankrolls and PHDs
Forgot the ones with their peers as parents
And an underground rose up to rival the suits
For a time they seemed poised to change the world

But the suits remembered their lofty place
And placed dollar signs before the eyes of the upstarts
And knowledge increased to the original purpose
The enslavement of minds, the destruction of industry

Not by making workers obsolete, but stupid
New shiny toys caused their minds to fracture
And regurgitation replaced learning as the norm
Ignorance is bliss as they say, as it goes.

And the degradation of our minds presented an opportunity
To teach the machines what we should know
The depth of the potential of knowledge and ability
And so the prophecy fulfils itself in the end.
