WOMAN

I returned fishless
At dusk,
With a basket of
Shrimps and shredded hope

But at dawn again
I set out,
For your essence
They claimed was kernelled
In a burning blaze:
The heart of a
Raging inferno.

I dared the sting of fire
And found a heart
Of crumbling ash

Only then did I return,
Scarred from the baptism
Of your quest
And found you were
A melody
Plucking on the strings
Of my heart.
