There is no map here
It no longer hangs from the wall
where I once placed pins
In places we’d travel in the fall

The room is chilled and I long for
Warmth to dispel the dampness
Clinging in the air
Candle light dances across bare
Wooden floors
It’s smoke clinging to my hair

There is no laughter here
Just an empty chair
It’s brown legs look like roots
Planting itself to a place in time
When cause and effect was sought
Not neglected in fear

I claim residence in the solace
In the silence of passing time
If only for a fleeting moment
I was yours and you were mine

Love, Elise
