Age creeps into the cracks within her bones
Squint eyed she wonders where sight has flown
Heart beats faster as time slows a notch.
Strength all gone, life has become a crutch

Mouth smells sour as her teeth begins to fall.
Who said “Life began at forty “ had yet to see it pall
Shouted on by kinsmen with her ear aid on,
Hand led like a child, no more this world she long

Surrounded by dimwits who take her for a fool
But for her children she would have jumped into the back yard pool.
Legs, sight, taste gone, no fun from life derived
Alive but old, all pleasure from life deprived

Good friends passed to the great beyond
Death taunts does not to her pleas respond.
The more she pray for life yonder
More her heart rebels, beats on stronger

Age creep into the cracks beneath her bones
Who said "life began at forty "had yet to see it pall.
