TODAY IS NATIONAL INNER BEAUTY DAY

Every day provides us an opportunity to celebrate. Today on National Inner Beauty Day, let your inner beauty shine! Don’t buy into the media’s portrayal of beauty and the perfect life. The images they use are only meant to get us to buy their products. They are not concerned about helping individual’s gain self-esteem, they are focused on their business’s bottom line. My beliefs about how society and big business define beauty were the inspiration for today’s poem.

MAKE INNER BEAUTY THE NORM

I don’t mean to sound snooty
but, we need to rethink beauty.

The media by design
has caused us to define

beauty as an outward appearance
to which society nods in inherence.

This creates a living hell
just so their products will sell.

They offer this is a solution
it’s just mind pollution.

We need to free our minds
of this definition that binds.

Look beyond the skin
focus on what’s within

where true beauty resides
with no outer disguise.

When our spirit is nourished
inner beauty flourishes.
Let inner beauty reign
ending unnecessary pain.

Let’s end the media games
dousing the burning flames

of this media created living hell
while breaking out of our shell.

We can help society reform
and make inner beauty the norm.
