To rescue is not just a verb, it's a promise

A promise to care
A promise to love
A promise to always keep you safe
A promise to speak the words you can't
A promise to feed you healthy
A promise to play and to cuddle
A promise to take long walks

Actually ...
Rescuing is more than just a promise
A commitment that won't be easy and flawless

It should be a guarantee,
Of which sincere love is definitely the key
A guarantee to you and all those who were abandoned
Left alone, wounded or neglected

Like them, you got a new chance
It's up to me it won't become just a glance
I won't spoil your only opportunity
to enter a new and better world.

I know that the special life depending on me is you
I won't just promise
I won't make you a 'rescue I once knew'
I'll take a full, 200% commitment

In return, I'm sure I'll get a better friend than I've ever dreamed of
A unique friendship a human could never give

But while I'll raise you and let you grow
I understand that it won't be easy for me and for you
to forget the world you used to know
and the behavior you were used to.

As your caretaker, it's up to me to not give up
To lead you carefully, gentle and patient
And accept that some little things will never change
whatever I'll do, say or arrange.

You've lived a life I can't imagine or foresee
Maybe struggling for food or find shelter underneath a tree
Besides this, you have your breed, an instinctive natural feel
which tells you when to bark, hunt or protect your meal

There is always a way to go on
To get us both on the right track
I'll be a leader, a parent and a friend
I'll give you respect and I'm sure you'll give it back
