It is a deafening silence

And I wish to escape its resonating sound

The common man, the common man

What makes him common?

Does he come cheaper?

Or less human?

Is he less superior or more inferior ?

Who is he?

That he bears such burden?

That he endures such sorrow?

Why is he impaired by the size of his wallet?

And judged by the weight of his bank account?

His burden is burdensome

He lives in decaying ruins

And slaves for a morsel of meat

Yes, for every grain of food

The common man

Qualified by poverty

And having like-fate as house-rats

He sweats to eat less

He despairs for not being good enough

The common man

Is he less human?

Is his fate destined?

Or does he suffer the injustices of man?

His sunken eyes deep as a graveyard

His brow furrowed as deep valleys

He falls apart and is fed to the dogs

The common man

An acronym for sweat

For pain

For denial

The common man

A Sun hidden in the clouds

A Star overshadowed by the Skies

He is the one who lives down the rickety road

With wizened-faced women

And fat-bellied children

Why does he live like scum?

And as filthy as dirt?

Leeches and parasites live off them

Grab! Grab!! Grab!!!

The fattened cows take it all

Leaving the common man without

But he is not packaged less

And shouldn't be discarded as trash

He is just a common man

No say, No day off

Never gay

No hay for a few horses

And looking for a place to lay his head

The common man

Scorned with no savings for the rainy day

And no silver to call his own

This is the burden he bears, the common man
