If I Gave My Store To You

If I gave my store to you, what items would you offer?
Something special and unique, from which you’d fill your coffer?
Or something utilitarian, like products for folks homes,
There are also outdoor ornaments; perhaps you’d sell lawn gnomes?
If I gave you one full year, in which to increase sales,
Would you achieve great success, and all that it entails?

If I offer it to you and if you think you’re ready,
Tell me how you’ll make it work, and keep the profits steady.
Businesses fail every day, how would you make yours better?
Would you make employees follow, your rules to the letter?
What about disturbances, if someone disrespects you,
When last week they did something to help and to protect you?
Would you fire them on the spot, or show them understanding?
Would it profit you to be less bossy and demanding?

How would you discover, the things folks want to buy?
Would you ask them questions while you looked them in the eye?
How would you move merchandise, and get it quickly sold?
What would you have to throw out, if it sat and got too old?

If I gave my store to you, when its sales are really great,
And I returned a year from now, could you show me good growth rate?
If you want me, to give to you, my store and all that’s in it,
How would you approach me, and convince me that you’d win it?
