Fat Monster

in poetry •  7 years ago

Primal force deep within
Claws and digs the back of my skin.
Hollow spaces to dwell inside
A monster roams, it tries to hide.

Comfort food is not really for me
The creature feeds on stress and glee.
Man does not live by bread alone
The beast grows stronger when nobody’s home.

When the sun is out and there’s fun to be had
The monster says, “no.” with chains made of fat.
He laughs and he smiles when I finally decide
To sit in a chair to eat burgers and fries.

I have an announcement I would like to make
I’m taking my life back before it’s too late.
It started in my mind and moved to my hands
Monster get out I’m making a stand.

“It’s not that easy”, comes a growl from within
“I thought we were pals, I thought we were friends.”
Let’s talk about fitness, let’s talk about pride.
“Talk all you want, just feed me some pie.”

There’s only one answer, only one will do
I will bow on my knees and pray to break through.
Dear God, please help me, please reach within
And drag out this monster who lives under my skin.
