Resilient Hope (The Flame)

in poetry •  8 years ago

The thief that robs one of belief isn’t failure,
But worry that has soured into fear,
And though worry vies for my attention,
Fear finds no purchase here.

I have felt how fear can drown out belief,
Have felt hope’s light growing dim,
But I have learned to keep it close,
Like a burning flame within.

I hold my flame safe from the dampness of doubt,
Weary of skepticism and its blowing winds,
And as fear seems unable to find me,
My belief burns strong once again.
