The Night Humbles

in poetry •  7 years ago  (edited)

As the light fades
And darkness dominates
Everything begins to change
I can feel a difference
Come about in myself
The night has a way
Of showing us
Things we never saw
In the light of day
It teachers us
More about ourselves
Than anything else can
From our deepest concerns
To our tightly held secrets
They all seem to surface
Once the black pursues
The night humbles
Whether it be from
The sight of the stars
Showing us beauty unmatched
Demonstrating how small
We truly are
And how big we can dream
To the loneliness
Accompanied from darkness
Pulling at our insecurities
Forcing us to beg
For what we need to feel whole
Or maybe it is as simple
As the hope it brings
That the sun will rise again
Tomorrow illuminating
All we no longer can see
And by the grace of God
Giving us another day to be human
Or what if it is to show us
That all we have achieved
Is minor and that
We are given this
Absence of light and sound
To plot and dream
Of bigger and better
Things to accomplish
Regardless of the intention or reason
The night unknowingly
Humbles
