The Falling Leaves of Autumn

in poetry •  7 years ago  (edited)

Red, gold, and yellow shining on a hill.
It's the dusk of summer, and the air's begun to chill;
Frigid winds sweep through the branches of a tree,
For the cold season of darkness has begun finally.

The forest and the town both hunker down.
The days grow shorter and the shadows, long;
Sunshine's last smile departs from the atmosphere.
It's truly evident that the flickering twilight is here.

Within my heart there is a tiny flame,
A fire that these winds won't blow away;
Nestled in my cozy home, I sip a cup of tea,
And let the harsh winds blow over me.
