Lessons learnt to make us bright
From how the Tortoise got a bumpy shell
To which rat will be bold to face the cat with a bell?
The excitement on her face as she share
Some monster stories I still fear.
Even when the sons just play ball
And the daughters play with sand
She sits us down and sing us melodious songs
Before baring her heart out with her interesting tales
And after we just sleep excitedly and skip meals.
The boredom that sets in is hard to bear
Sometimes I have to laugh to the tales I remember
Or share with my siblings that are younger
Nothing compared to her informal education
That has given us inspiration and motivation.
My grandmother called me today and told me some stories which has prompted this poetry. It took me down memory lane and I remembered tales such as: How Tortoise got a bumpy shell, Humpty Dumpty, The Tortoise and the lizard and many more. Which other tales can you remember? God bless our grandmothers for this informal education that they gave to us.

Great tales such as Tortoise and the hare, tortoise, the dog and the farmer. Tortoise is always present in most tales. You have really taken me down the memory lane too.
