(E)lcarim : A poetic story

in poetry •  8 years ago

Please do not drink and drive - a reminder
You not only put your precious life in danger
but you also become a potential threat to random strangers
Unwillingly putting people in the emergency chambers.

This is where the story ends.
The man with the coat and mask exclaimed "(E)Lcarim" loudly
For the past 72 hours, Chris and John had been monitored hourly
Didn't seem like they were going to come back to life soundly
I guess it worked, their families had been praying profoundly

It was the 4th day in the chamber when they both came back to life
Their families waited for three nights in the hospital and then arrived
Chris and John are rushed back to the ambulance in the stretchers at night
The ambulance attendants hold the stretchers tight and swiftly push it inside
Chris and John in the stretchers, the ambulance is driven back for a mile
and is stopped at a junction near the ice-cream parlour by the traffic lights.

The attendants open the ambulance doors and swiftly pull the stretchers out,
Chris and John are then stuffed inside two wrecked cars near the roundabout,
They're heavily bleeding, everyone says they won't survive without a doubt,
The attendants get back in the ambulance to drive a mile back and flee out.

The helpline number hangs up and the phone rings with an alarming tone,
Someone calls up the helpline number with their newly bought cellphone,
Standing by the wrecked red colored cars of Martin Chris and Ricky John.
And then the man rushes back to his own car and sits inside thereupon,
Keys in the car, starts and drives backwards in the same lane all alone.

As he drives a mile back,
Chris' car starts spinning rapidly while John's car starts to move back
And Chris' car hits John's car while rapidly spinning with the drag
The dents in the car heal and they both gain their consciousness back
Hands back on the wheel, bruises heal and they both scream, gasp and then relax.

They both start driving backwards:
Chris approaches the traffic lights glowing brightly behind him, it's green - clean
John approaches the traffic lights glowing brightly behind him, it's red - obscene
Driving backwards, the lights are in front of John now; RED - he can barely see
Under the influence of alcohol, he is not in control, he is nauseated and dizzy

Driving backwards, Chris looks at a small picture of his daughter and admires her
Smiles as he drives to his home while John drives back to his friends', a few miles up
He parks the car, picks up an empty bottle and throws up the alcohol back in the bottle
Repeats it for over five to six times straight, and with every bottle he feels a lot more sober

Chris reaches his home:
Opens the car doors and moves towards his home with his back facing the house
Turns around and sees his wife, holding their daughter waving at him from the couch
With a big wide smile, he tells her "Ssecnirp oot uoy (e)vol"
and she waves and says "Uoy (e)vol, yddad eyb, yad (e)cin a (e)vah"
This is where the story begins.
