Chasing Paradise

It’s a still and quiet morning,
Through my window, I can see the colours of daylight breaking
And somehow it reminds me of you.
I know that you are often sad,
And that the light of your eyes have dimmed to a dull gaze,
That everyday it gets harder to tug on that effortless smile,
That your voice breaks when you speak of her and you can barely croak a word,
And that the mirror only reflects a person you vaguely recognise,
A person that is not you but it is you.
But let me tell you
That I will catch every drop that falls off your porcelain cheek,
And I will hold them in the palm of my hands
And teach you to swim in your glassy pool.
Or when you want to take a shower
For the water to cascade and mask those tears that you’ve so patiently crafted
And for the rush to drown the silence of your fallen battles
