Wishes (Poetry)

Wishes

If monkeys could fly with the greatest of ease
The way that they swing on the vines through the trees
And wishes were horses that romp in the breeze
Hooves pounding in sand and the surf of the seas

The tortoise could lope with the grace of a deer
Van Gogh would be painting with more than one ear
All people embrace life without threat or fear—
Look back with fond mem’ries of fine yesteryear

If magic could spring from our noses to air
Bewitch all our senses and singe all life’s care
Turn chaos to order with singular flair
In wink of an eye and one flip of the hair

And all our deep sorrows were turned upside down
In painted relief on the face of a clown
The lowest of creatures would sport a jeweled crown
Wild tigers would flee from a Mockingbird’s frown

If wishes from heart sang the soul of life’s dance
Cried tears of fine lace as they chased sweet romance
That nature could breathe free without backward glance
And people at long last would give peace a chance

The Fountain of Trevi, with beautiful view
A coin cast in water with hopes to renew
Yet, I would be happy if my dream came true
Of all my heart’s wishes— you’d say, I love you

I loved these lines. Imagine changing the status quo and the the whole cycle of life. Power is so unbalanced right now, it's interesting to think in the posibilities.

Great poem indeed.

You enjoyed it but didn't vote on it.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion; it is not the expression of personality, but an escape from personality. But, of course, only those who have personality and emotions know what it means to want to escape from these things. When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.Poetry is not only dream and vision; it is the skeleton architecture of our lives. It lays the foundations for a future of change, a bridge across our fears of what has never been before. Thanks for this blessings to you .
