Watch Me Burn

in poetry •  8 years ago

Another year older, yes
But a year even bolder?
That is a better test instead
In some respects, yes
In other ways, no
When I reflect on the path I have tread
I have no regrets
No fears that I fret
But this question lingers in my head
How much can I pack in
The years left before me
While my blood is still pumping bright red
If I’ve learned anything
How can I bring
The lessons to the Thanksgiving table
But I know they won’t listen
Because I rarely did
To the lessons revealed in the fables
That were told to me
While propped on a knee
With hopes to empower and enable
The way is to lead
And not just to read
The stories of those here before me
The key is to make
Even more big mistakes
That brightens the vision I see
Embrace the unknown
And make it my own
Sharing with all who may be
Able to learn
From watching me burn
All the fire that is still left in me
