Sex on Sundaze Episode 1: Humble Beginninings

in poetry •  7 years ago  (edited)

This photo is from the first Sunday I started the Sex on Sundaze project, in November 2015, and I couldn't find anyone willing to let me write on their butt. So, I had someone write on MY butt. I wouldn't call myself a shy person per se, but putting your ass out there on the internet isn't for timid hearts. What I learned from the experience is that my life has not changed at all because there is a picture of my ass in plain view for anyone who wants to see it. That includes my parents, my siblings, my enemies, my stalkers (well, not sure if I have stalkers...), my boyfriend's friends, anyone. Actually, Sex on Sundaze has only made my life better, so I could say my life has changed, but in a positive way. The project has forced me to create something cool every week, even when I don't feel like it, even when I am super "busy," even when I don't feel inspired. And that's just the effect it has had on me. I would like to think it is bringing something cool to at least a few more people out there <3

In case you're wondering, Sex on Sundaze is a place where poetry meets the human body as its canvas. I write a new, original poem inspired by the model(s) it is written on for a unique episode every Sunday. I started it because I wanted to make poetry less invisible. It's been a game changer for my understanding of the world and people and myself and the universe and nature and everything, so it kind of sucks that it has such a bad reputation (or at least one that people don't seem too interested in in terms of media). Poetry is amazing and this is my way of getting people to notice it. I hope they do :)

//EPISODE 1//

S u r r e n d e r

Start here: bend over
an open window, floor 4
that’s El Raval screaming
in la madrugada, asking
instead of praying like a slave.
I can feel you
listening, the vibrato
of a hive of bees, can you
choose your thoughts?
Don’t answer. I’ve been a blackbird
circling the temples of the soul,
mostly eyes and longing.
And then I appeared
inside la madrugada
of the mind and the blackbirds
around the temple spelled out
SURRENDER
over that patient piece of sky.

MODEL: Jessica is 30, born in New Orleans, USA, the city of French apothecaries and vampires.

I think this a wonderful idea! I'm not much into poetry but I like the connection with skin and photography :)
