Handcuffed | Original Poetry

Face to face with her liege,
she came.

I want to leave, she said
as she held out her wrists for him.

She shrinked not away when he slid
two metal cuffs onto her bare bones — 
I can’t hold on for much longer.

With a flippant laugh and a fling of his hand,
her liege tossed the key away.

You can’t leave me, he said
as he yanked roughly on the cuffs that
held her wrists — 
We still have
work to be done.

But she no longer listened
to him describing,
with eyes wide and glistening,
his visions of an utopia with white sterile walls.

Her soul danced to the rhythm
of rapturous angel song — 
free from his lashes,
free of her flesh.

As you all probably know, I took a short breather from Steemit this week due to my very good friend's wedding (which I'm so excited about - it's tomorrow!) and my crazy complicated work situation. The former brings much joy and responsibilities while the latter only serves to heap stress and sorrow.

In the midst of stuff like rehearsing my walk-in as a bridesmaid into the sanctuary, I have my boss on my case - intimidating and threatening me with his rhetoric not to leave the company.

I guess it's pretty clear which event was the inspiration for this poem. Writing is extremely cathartic - and helps with the overwhelm.
