It Would Be Easy

It would be easy

If being a parent
Were as simple
As hearts and flowers
And greeting cards—

But it isn’t.

It’s temper and tears,
Anguish and fears—

Mornings
When getting up or lying down

Makes
Little difference.

But every now and then
You look into their eyes
And realize…

Despite all the tiredness
The frustration and fights,

There is something
Of you in each of them—

And for an instant

You know real joy…
Enough to last a whole lifetime—
As long as you remember
This moment

The next time you yearn
For some down time
And feel a failure
For not meeting their needs.

This poem speaks so much of a father's love, his anguish and his joys. It is beautiful! Bringing a child to the world is the greatest blessing and a great commitment. To be a parent is to give your life for the person you love before holding you in your arms, it is not knowing what we are capable of until our children are in danger, it is understanding that we love you more than anything, but that we are not the owners , that they are of the life and it is necessary to train them in values and with strong wings for when it is time for them to leave the nest. I have a daughter (20 years old) but she also takes all my attention daily, she is studying in another city, far from home and I pray that she will always be well. His eyes and his smiles are my happiness. I loved reading this poem and it came to my soul, @johnjgeddes.

you write so beautifully of your devotion to your daughter, an emotion that is often felt by fathers as well. Every day I am amazed by my son's devotion to his son - a devotion as intense and strong as a mother's love. You are truly blessed, @aurodivys

The love towards a son is a deep and magical feeling. I thank God every day for the joy of being a mom. Your son should value you even more now that he is a father and if he is a good one, he means that he is replicating the best example. I congratulate you for the task accomplished. A great greeting, @johnjgeddes.

I am not a mother, God had not given me that joy, but I can imagine the joy and sadness that a father can feel in a moment. As a daughter, I believe that parents are our first angels; in this poem we see how the first stanza talks about what the father's role would be like if they were only gifts, details... it would be very easy. Father's Day is every day in the world. From the moment the child is born, the father no longer sleeps. He takes a back seat, the child is paramount. It would be easy if it was just the details, if it was just a dress that you can take off at the end of the day, or if you don't have your father's dress, say you're not going to wear it today, but tomorrow yes, or simply if you're tired, say you're not going to be or do it. Being a father is a job that God gives you and it's the one that sees your resume! We can't disappoint him. Nice night for you, @johnjgeddes

Thanks Nancy - You may not be a parent but you certainly understand the role. It would also be easy if the job was perfectly accomplished, but never is, and the best any parent can ask for at the end is compassion and forgiveness. We can do nothing perfectly, for we are imperfect

Hardest and most rewarding job on earth - with a few moments of contemplating murder.....LOL

So true, my friend, lol

Mom and dad will always look after their child regardless of the circumstances.
Thank you @johnjgeddes
