my own tiny world

in poetry •  7 years ago  (edited)

I was on my way to bed
When I saw the moon
Illumine a cloud.

I was tired

But lingered a moment
In the darkened room.

These walls
close off so much
of the world outside…

I can miss quiet rainstorms
And dark patterns
On patio stones,

But tonight it’s clear—
An autumn chill in the air

Only a few clouds in the sky.

A plane passes
Through a dark bay,
A small diamond blinking,

And I wonder
If anyone up there
Ever looks down

Or if they’re closed
In their own tiny world...

Sheltered like me.
