Map to the Heavens

Fear grips the mind
rendering it powerless
and victim to its paralysing talons.

It awakens, the eye of the mind,
but it’s trapped inside a hollow shadowed cave
It looks up and sees the possibilities of the world
if only it would be brave enough to take.

It opens its mouth,
but no words come out.
Looks around,
cannot make a sound.

Is this what it feels to be a mime in life?
Refusing to face the world in which you reside
Don’t, they tell you, it’s better safe than sorry
And you walk through your whole life
feeling sorry that you’re sorry.

You’ve felt it before, this uncanny feeling
You don’t like it much so you cast your eyes aside
swallow, muted, look for something new
your man-made codeine shell is a dangerous tool

You’re not fighting for your cause and it’s making you weak
You’re not bearing your sword and it’s making you meek.

The longer you wear your mask
you’ll find the harder it is to detach
and the words that once flowed easily
will get stuck in your head
We fear the judging stares
so we flit from door to doorknob
hoping the world will not see
But at the same time wishing, WISHING, to be seen.

Recognise, it screams, RECOGNISE, IT SAYS, THE VOICE,
the voice in your head and your heart and your mind.
Pure and clean in purpose
It exists, as the beginning
It wipes out all doubt
gives meaning to suffering.

The wave of fresh air
breeze of life’s consciousness
Omnipotent comfort,
motherly in its embrace
Fierce in its rising potential-
RECOGNISE, RECOGNISE,
the voice bobs and sways,
There's something bigger than you
and all the worries you face.
