A Poem About Learning and Choosing to Love Those Who Have Hurt You In Life

in poetry •  6 years ago  (edited)

The memories roll over me again,
Each time I am around you.
Many of them overbearingly hurtful,
But I yearn to forget and begin anew.

Everything about you reminds me of a difficult past,
The hurt, the fear, and even the good,
But I want to love you despite it all,
And I wish you understood.

Though I remember well,
The pain my heart endured,
All the times I never felt your love,
And my silent cries you never heard.

But I've learned something after all of these years,
That the choice is entirely mine,
Whether I push away or draw near,
Or learn to truly love you after all of this time.

You see, I could choose to leave,
To never see you again,
To hate, and blame, and despise,
And choose to change myself within.

Yet I've chosen to do something,
That to some is unheard of,
For you see instead of learning to hate,
I am learning to love.

Learning to love the sad memories,
Learning to love all I was put through,
Learning to love, forgive, and forget,
But ultimately, learning to love you.

This poem is about learning to love the ones who may have hurt you in life that can be hard for you to love.
This poem is for anyone and everyone, and can represent anyone within your life who may have hurt you but who you chose to love still.

For me, this poem is about my mom and all I faced in my past.
After all the hurt and hard times she put me through, I could have chosen to push away from her for good and no longer see her-- but I have chosen to still stay in touch and love her despite it all.

This poem is for you, and your personal experience in learning and choosing to love someone who has hurt you.
Learning to do that takes so much strength--but you are a stronger, more admirable, and more beautiful individual for choosing it.

I hope this poem speaks to you and inspires you in many ways.

Much Love,
Sarah Nicole ❤

Learning to love again
~
It is with a still fear I proceed
Learning to love again
I keep hearing little thoughts
Saying I have been here before
Full of the joy and happiness
Before it all came to an end
Filling me with a diseased sadness
That poisoned my mind
How could this be any different
Have I learnt from my past
Should I show full faith and trust
In what each tomorrow will bring
I’m learning to do just that
In spite of those thoughts
I’m a storm of contradictions
Ambition blinds fear
And fear keeps reminding
Of the love I have and have lost
Each one echoes in stillness
Though I continue onwards
Learning to love again

I've never read that poem, but it's very inspirational! Thanks for sharing!

Love is extremely powerful! My goodness. You made a wise choice there Sarah. Forgiveness and love take away any negativity in your spirit and open up new levels of healing in your life. Amazing post, I enjoyed reading it.
