Love, the sweetest of all illusions,
one of the most delicate intrusions,
posing a problem to rational solutions,
having a field day with the mind´s confusions.
Toppling the strong and blessing the weak,
knowing exactly in which heart to sneak,
trying unconditional but causing some drama,
not everybody gets to be Sita and Rama.
Some love their country or the car they just got,
some love themselves, sure, why not?
Some like it platonic, some like it hot,
but nobody likes it to be like a bot.
Love is in a puppy´s eye,
love is in the air,
love is in a baby´s cry,
but love for sure ain´t fair.
Love sometimes turns into hate,
you had your chance, now it´s too late.
Love sometimes is madness´ sweetest gift,
the hormons rejoicing, the mind cast adrift.
Love at least is no fading fad,
without love, we´d be the walking dead,
so enjoy your love, enjoy Cupid´s bliss,
though most of the time it will be hit-and-miss.

yes, love it @likedeeler. Love between two people and getting it right is a mini miracle really, in all the towns and in all the world, finding someone that gets you and accepts you and vice versa is indeed hit and miss. Celebrate it and rejoice in it when you have it and cherish it with all your heart.
I am really lucky, I have my two girls and that love is the best love there is :)

I wanted to join that contest and the topic was love. I´ve been calling love the sweetest of all illusions for more than 30 years now, so this was my starting point and the rest was just flowing freely. My process is a mix of wanting to say certain things and the words at the end of a line which require another word at the end of the next line to rhyme sometimes taking over the narrative and forcing the next line. I prefer the framework of rhyme and rhythm to the more freestyle forms of modern poetry, same like I can listen to Duke Ellington all day long, but a few minutes of Free Jazz would drive me mad.
It don´t mean a thing if it ain´t got that swing!
