What's of a shadow - around, behind, ahead?
You leaned over a well and looked down,
And never saw yourself again
Tumbling below, bouncing among the bricks,
The Earth surrounding but everything,
Never mattering how hard you kicked
A creature then removed one stone block or two,
Blowing away the remaining dirt, peering in,
Before finally resting his eyes on you
Though you never saw the freak that had you in its sights,
You could feel it peering in on you,
Like the beating of the sun as it arrives from night
And then came a rainy day, finding the open brim,
Water flooded inward from the rain above,
And thus you could swim
As you slowly escaped upward trying to find the top,
You noticed an opening, the loosened brick,
And a pair of yellow eyes that made you stop
Floating for a minute, the two stared at each other
Instead of returning home, you stayed
For this creature - the shadow - was your brother
