“Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! " - Lewis Carroll
Mistake made
lessons hard to learn
sitting in my chair
with leg fully bare
kitten jumps up tells sad story
how she was wronged
puppy stole her toy, broken now
soon she slips gravity wins
leaves trail as claws dig in
flesh is ripped then she gets
on the desk curious enquires
to smell witch hazel swab
it stings yet soothes
her nosiness doesn't even mind
she looks more filled with pride.
This happened the other morning... I was wanting to put the poem together on a picture for the poetry slam challenge, but can't really get good text features done on my computer. Oh well, there's always too many great ones entered that will win anyway. At least I have a new silly poem to post. :)
And this is my kitten Princess Sprinkles... she's such a funny one, seems to be staying perma-kitten size after a year.
There's something about her ... like I've known for years that I was waiting for a certain kitten. And this is it, she's the perfect fit for me. Like a soul mate in a feline form? So bizarre to explain really.
Don't get me wrong, there's also very strong and different bond I have with my other cat, he acts much like a dog some how. But she's like the cat version of me in a lot of ways. And one of the strangest things ever, is that five years ago when I first saw her mother, I said "Ohh, I love you I'm going to have one of your kittens some day!" because we thought she was a neighbor's cat and not a stray. But she was so pretty and sweet, super friendly and out going. Her daughter is a lot like her too, except for being scared a lot.
When the kittens were born, I didn't think I could take one at the time. And we didn't know she would look like her mom at all, at first she just seemed to be a grey tabby. As she grew her patches of white and peach showed up more. And it just so happened that the perspective homes fell through, so I got to bring her back with me when I had my visit with them a year ago. It all worked out perfectly.
Then my old roomies brought home another kitten a few weeks later, and it seemed like their age was really close together, they became like sisters for awhile. :)
She's really too smart for her own good, the other day we kept seeing light flashing in the living room. Turns out she was up on furniture, jumping to hang on the curtain and swing her weight until it caught on the corner of the TV stand.
Just so she could lay there and look out the window. Oh no, getting down and laying in the window ledge wasn't good enough for her. The view was better up there, and she could spread out.
She can figure out how to open many things you try locking her from.
The spare bed room we hoped to be able to keep animal free for guests? I wanted to have crafts and breakables that cats couldn't attack.
Nope, she claims that as HER own room and tells us off if she can't get in there.
It doesn't have a lock, and she's figured out how to open the door from outside AND inside too.
I finally managed to rig it up to be kitten proof, first tried to tie the doorknob with a rope, but my rope was too thick for that to work well on the small door knobs.
So I found one of my bungie cords... the hook fit right over the handle perfect. It wasn't quite long enough to reach the other doorknob on a closet, so I added a spare dog collar(one that was brand new but never used because it's too big for my girls. I had bought it for a stray, then he moved on.) to lengthen it. Perfect!
Now we just slip the dog collar off when we need to go in or out, and loop it back over the knob afterwards.
I love those bungies, so useful they save the day for many many things. If I had a pic ready I would post this little "set up" right now. It's just not something I'd usually take a photo of though, I'm just too happy it works so well, heh.
