ADDICTION…

One morning you wake up sick and you’re an addict."

ADDICTION...

Masquerading as a lover
toying with the brain,
whispers in your ear
relinquishing the pain.

It leads you down a path
profound, and full of lies
promising a future
like a devil in disguise.

Desperate but perceptive
sometimes your only friend,
controlling all your power
watching you descend.

Chronic and complexing
defining who you are,
weakening defenses --
dampening your star.

Urging you to act
despite incessant harm,
breaking all you love
lack of any charm.

Destined for destruction
surrounding you with blame,
fears from the past --
filled with guilt and shame.

Stuck in the middle
searching for the light,
delaying the inevitable
putting off the fight.

The cage built around you
trapped within a storm,
living in a prison
unwilling to conform.

Taming fearless dragons
requires more than will,
defeating such a beast --
battling uphill.

With intentions of it's own
it fights you tooth and nail,
the agenda it is on --
goes beyond the very pale.

And even if you slip it
the threat is always there
Addiction is a killer
...hanging in the air

Excellent words

Appreciate it @darrenh!

All that and more, @macksby. It's an affliction like no other.

And still some people think it's a choice... Thanks @fairytalelife!
