Once, I used to peer into the heavens
trying to figure out if there is a God above
until I learned
that to truly hold faith
one must learn to look not up
but
deep into the heart, into a place where
we usually fear to go--our own mortality,
our own dread--our own death.

In the deep pool of hidden shadows
that dwells inside all of us,
sometimes, we can find a hidden
bouquet of words,
flowers that reveal themselves
in the petals, we sprinkle through our writing,
or the acts we visit upon
ourselves and others, healing pain,
bringing comfort to those in need.

In the darkest shadows, sometimes
we find a pearl of wisdom, of action,
that when taken, leaves no doubt
about who and what we are,
what we wish to become--can become.

But, sometimes, not all of us
have the opportunity of becoming.

In a sea of dark faces, washed up on a
shore of hunger and despair,
why is God not caring for the forgotten,

or

is he trying to show us
that we need to care--should care.

As we sit down to eat and give thanks
before partaking in a beautiful meal
we must remember to be thankful for
all of the small things that make life dear,
because for many, there are far too
many large things that can interfere
with the ability to obtain even the small.

Pondering words of wisdom
created to alleviate despair
I will read Psalms to take heart
knowing that to find a balance
between thought and direction
can create ideas that, enveloped in hope,
may reduce someone else's pain.

As the stars in the sky move towards dawn,
watching the sunrise provides
a stirring of the limbs, where,
lulled by silence, the day's dance
has yet to start, but where,
in the midst of things rising,
hope does also.

On wings of words, on the wind of chance
we all share while riding through the day
I raise a hosanna to creators,
to those who craft the small things
that make up larger--that create a spark
so that others may see the blessings
we so take for granted--
for those who take the time
to gladden our hearts
and make us aware of each
precious moment of life
which--distilled into love--
shines a light on a path
that someday we all must face.

Does God exist? I believe so,
without concrete reason,
for when we search our soul
and learn to sing with wisdom and love
in the end, does it truly matter
because in creating
we emulate the god to be found
in all of us
and, in so doing, create our own path--
a path of hope, of love,
of becoming.

So this is a song for those who have
had no chance yet, who are lost
in the midst of despair.
I raise a prayer of understanding,
of loss, a wail into the dark,
because without the hope
that lights will shine where needed,
we need to pray that God can provide
what will sustain us

and if he can't
that we can
through our own actions
or our actions that affect others.
