Signal flow.
Acoustic: It begins as vibrations. Tiny cosmic explosions. The space between atoms fluctuates with regularity.
Pressure is recorded in oscillations.
Crest to trough, Crest to trough.
Proximity to source will see low frequency increase or decrease accordingly, be mindful of this.
Magnetic pull interprets waves of varying density. Subtle nuance is key, deliberately seek out fascinating harmonics. Resonances that hold truth. Crest to trough, Crest to trough.
Electric: Air moving in waves breaks upon coils, firing off electrons. They rush towards unknown destination with all the determination of a divine wind. They encounter resistance, and numbers are thinned, but still they come in waves. Crest to trough, An army of them. (On that note, copper highways travel well, but for your money gold is worth every zinc penny.)
Digital: Near journeys end electrons are greeted and amplified, a tiny atomic holy war, wave upon wave of fanatical particulate, moving with the dumb terrible purpose of armies everywhere. These armies cast atomic shadows in the forms of one’s and zeroes, binary murals. Memorials, sacred etchings. Crest to trough, the troops March in, Crest to trough they throw their shadows on the tiny wall.
These digital reflections now begin a jihad of their own, crest/on to trough/off.
On that note, Nyquist observed that to translate electrons into code, you must sample at twice the rate of the highest frequency you seek to capture. If the human range of hearing is twenty hz to twenty kHz, then a 44.1 kHz sample rate should do you fine, but the aficionados are always going to call for more.
Traveling now near speeds that baffle the mind, your pressure waves that were… Electrons that were… Ones and zeroes encounter Algorithm.
On to off, Crest to trough. Signal flows.
Here now, the real fun begins.
