Poem / Extinguishing the sun

in poetry •  7 years ago

The vast sounds of nature's muted scream
Are blasting off the tree tops, extinguishing the sun
Icy shards of fire falling down like hail
You and me the spectators as the world slowly fails

We were driving by the coastline
Coastal coals as coated sand
Made from broken sun rays
As the sun slowly decays

It looks as if it's just the two of us around
So won't you light a cigarette and watch the world go down
Sharing our last moments with nature's muted sound
The ground around us starts to break
Mother's fueled up powers wake

There's something really warming
About getting even, square
Never thought the sun
Will not announce her heir

No more gloomy moonlight shining through the clouds
No more chilly mornings as nature comes alive
We crowned ourselves the kings of living
But shown that we are truly the hungry spider's fly

Hopelessly we scatter like waves in steering tides
Praying for our false gods to make it all alright
I just kept on thinking I'm glad it finally came
And good thing I had a lighter and you right by my hand
