I've been wanting to create ASMR audio files with random readings and and sounds for quite a long time.
When I read Aishlinn's poem Let's Go Back To The Beginning - I quickly asked her permission to record her words. Far from spoken word and reading aloud, it took several takes to record this and get the hair-raising feeling that I was looking for.
Have you ever whispered and felt like your words were more effective than a shout?
Have you ever whispered sweet nothings into your lover's ear before making love?
It's like a back scratch that awakens your skin and soothes your mind.
What is ASMR?
The letters stand for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR), an acronym created by Jennifer Allen. She wanted to have an official sounding name for a sensory phenomena described as “the experience of tingling sensations in the crown of the head in response to a range of audio-visual triggers such as whispering, tapping, and hand movements.”
Sit back and listen...
- Be aware of how your body responds.
- Are you bothered by my whispering voice?
- Do the hairs on your arm or neck raise in response?
- Are you more awake or does it lull you to sleep?
Sensory awakening or Sensory overload?
This subject fascinates me, in part, because I get sensory overload. It was much worse when I was a child because I wasn't aware of what my triggers were, or how to properly respond or defend myself against it. It's a burden I have with Asperger's.
I have a college memory of deeply sleeping only to be rudely awakened by my roommate and a mutual friend whispering because they didn't want to wake me. In truth, had they banged pots, shouted and laughed, I probably would have slept better! Whispering grabs my attention and I try to focus in on what is said.
Maybe counter-intuitive to being hypersensitive to certain sounds, whispering has never made me feel like I needed to find a dark, quiet corner. I suppose a room full of incomprehensible sound would be frustrating unless you were the recipient of a breathy hello.
No one responds the same.

Interesting...
Hi, Mere!
I came here looking for you, because I've been rather lost, wandering aimlessly in a sort of writer's funk. No energy. No motivation.
Anyway, I am hoping that my creative side may be reawakening a bit, and you of course are one of the first "pen friends" I thought of. I hope all is well with you.
😄😇😉
