I see a different face
Every time I look in the mirror
And staring for too long
Stirs a deep rooted fear
It shatters all illusions
To see the self so clear
The ego feels threatened
To see that it's not real
It's important to understand
The purpose of identity
And to remember deep within
What is eternally underneath
It's easy to forget
And get swept away in the current
Of "I am this and that"
When simply "I am" completes the sentence
Resistance and attachments
The antithesis of enlightenment
Yet they are not inherently wrong
For they are all just part of the song
So when the question arises,
"Who am I?" The answer is,
"I am." Nothing more than this
And nothing less.
While the ego remains incomplete,
All which is needed waits just underneath.
To keep this faith, that simple phrase to speak,
All will be restored through the endless journey,
Completed in the blink of an eye.
