Hello steemers tonight I want to share with you the story of my favorite poet, enjoy this fascinating story.
Poet, narrator, journalist and American literary critic, Edgar Allan Poe is known for his narrative of horror, romantic horror and his mastery of the tale of Gothic influence, being considered one of the great masters of universal literature and father of the detective genre.
Orphaned by father and mother, Poe went through an irregular education, from the United States to Scotland and England, until his brief stint at the University of Virginia, where he published his first book anonymously, and by the army, publishing his second book.
Poe began to work for various newspapers and magazines with which he earned a hard life. He traveled through several cities in California with his wife, Virginia Clemm, who was his young cousin. His death in 1847, just turned 24, would mean the psychological collapse of Poe, which resulted in some of his best and darkest works while abandoning alcohol and drugs.
Prior to the death of his wife, Poe had already been unable to maintain a permanent job in the newspapers with which he collaborated due to his alcoholism, which he tried to control. In 1845 he published what would be his most celebrated poem, The Raven.
Poe practiced several genres throughout his literary career, dealing in an almost obsessive manner such as death, burial in life or mourning. In this sense are well-known stories like The well and the pendulum, The mask of the red death, The tell-tale heart or Berenice, among many others.
In addition, Poe created the first modern detective of literature, Auguste Dupin, a character that unmistakably influenced authors such as Arthur Conan Doyle or Agatha Christie.
In 1849, Poe appeared disoriented, dressed in clothes that were not his and wandering the streets of Baltimore. He was taken to a hospital, but could not recover coherent speech to explain what had happened to him. Since then, the cause of death has not been clarified and there has been speculation about drug problems, meningitis, syphilis or even rabies.
The subsequent influence of Poe in the culture, both popular and academic, has grown over time and today is an incontestable figure, whose stories have been taken to the cinema on numerous occasions and has even become part, as a character, of numerous books, television episodes or feature films.
