BOOKS NEVER RUN | A Poetic Discussion

Books never run out of things to reveal.
Different books reveal different things
to different people.

Isn’t that what you told me?
that the main difference between men,
or women,
can always be traced
to the books they’ve read.

Why is it then that when I read
the same books that you did,
I saw different things in them?

Why did you not say that the same books
reveal different things to the same people?
Why did you not say that the greatest difference
is between the same people
who read the same books
and saw different things in them?

That the greatest similarities
is between different people
who read different books
and saw the same things in them?

But we’re not that different,
you and I, are we?
We’re not that different!

So I’ll keep reading the same books,
and hope I’ll find something different.

And you’ll keep reading different books
and hope you’ll find something similar.

Thankfully books never run
out of things to reveal.
