The City lights

in poetry •  7 years ago

A light orange with a pink undertone
Is streaked across the sky
Painting the clouds with a deep
Mixture of grey and the fading tinge of sunshine
As the sun dips below the horizon.
The Shadow seemingly chasing the
Light, as it approaches from the east
Pulling a blanket of stars over the quite city.

There they are, like fireflies in the glade.
The lamps light up , one by one,
Almost as if responding to the stars,
Returning a twinkling greeting.

Upon their posts and from behind
Their windows, they keep watch
Over the sleeping city.
Small beacons of light in the night,
Calling the weary travelers
And storm worn sailors
Home.
