The Descent

in poetry •  8 years ago

you knew it during the descent
second leap off the bluff water
fast-approaching your knees
to your chest heart hammering

you knew it because this fall
was not the tumble elevating
your heart rate the kiss up top
before this glorious leap

set you ablaze the only way and
to quench the fire was to drop
into the yawning mouth out
of her grasp her electric heat

every place she touched on fire
you arced off even footing
as though you could find more
ground in water instead you

set the water boiling and she
dove in after to retrieve your
mouth on hers your grasping
slippery hands your heart
