When you're gay
dating is just the same
as if you were straight.
Except,
instead of holding hands,
you walk behind him
to avoid being harassed.
Except,
instead of gazing deeply into his eyes,
you make sure no stranger is staring
before you go in for a kiss.
Except,
instead of enjoying the bliss
in a loving embrace,
you protect yourselves
from the man with bulging eyes
who repeatedly shouts
at the top of his lungs:
"The bible clearly states ,
one MAN and one WOMAN!"
Then, you spend the rest
of your evening
calming down your date
who no longer feels safe
being held in your arms.

Even if I believed it was a sin, it's just human narcissism that allows the bible-thumpers to blame a talking snake for all of their own sins, and human arrogance to convince themselves they alone are the divine judge, jury, and executioner.
Furthermore, the story of Lot (Sodom and Gommorah) has been interpreted mostly from dead languages (Aramaic) and the Hebrew texts do not have literal translations, so I'm sure it's just a coincidence that humans use their own curiously self-serving versions to justify dominating one another.
Oh I'm the one being anachronistic, they might say? They who are taking two lines from the Torah but ignoring not only the Jewish interpretation of the Hebrew text, but also ignoring their own Gospels? Right. Sounds legit.

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
There are also more passages in the Q'uran concerning hypocrites than there are concerning Lut, which for some weird reason it mentions four times.

It was almost hilarious to read Matthew's passage in that old English. We do have that as a saying in Maltese, now I know where it came from!

They're all experiences I went through - and you have to consider that Malta is one of the most accepting countries in the world. I cannot imagine what others have to go through where being gay is illegal.

Exactly. When it comes to love/romance, I tend to write poems that are directed in first-person and I haven't contributed much to the third-person view and the reality of our context. This was one of my first attempts. Thank you for your comment :)

read your poem yesterday. Felt your pain and love. been thinking about it all day. I am not what you would call religious. I am a child of God. Don't let dumb-asses take what is in your heart from you. I call those religious people ,Pharisee . also known as hypocrites. not my words but Jesus's.
He also said " don't cast your pearls before swines"Learn and understand what that means. I'm not worried about you finding god. He found you. So my brother I would stand side by side with you. Shoulder to shoulder. Be happy and live your life on your terms.
