Every Cloud by John Keane - A poem regarding mental health

in poetry •  6 years ago

This poem was sent to me by a friend who also lost a child a few years ago. She said it helped to her to think more rationally about the traumatic experience and keep a positive mindset. I hope that sharing it will help others like myself :)

"It's okay to not be okay,
but it's not okay to stay that way,
today is never yesterday,
tomorrow is a better day.

It's alright to feel not alright,
but it's not alright to stop the flight,
out of darkness into light,
life's arduous so hold on tight.

The lows are here to set the bar,
to show that all of us have scars,
our demons never really far,
but make us who we really are.

Our mission here, to pave the way,
create a better place to stay,
to the next generation say,
we worked it out, do no dismay.

So keep the light inside of you,
and walk beside that darkness too,
for we can never learn if all is new,
and the sun needs clouds, to break out through."
