Imagery

To paint a picture with the medium of words.
Drawn from a lexicon, articulating thoughts.
Choosing the subject, outlining the scene.
A person, an object, a diorama of green.
Words imbue colours, broad brush strokes the phrases.
Fine linear details etching historic faces.
A textural complexion formed from a palette knife.
Capturing, immortal, a moment in life.
Summer's acid bright tinctures by splashes and dabs
Russets of Autumn to Winter's dull drabs.
Horizon distant mountains a dark lilac beyond.
Perspective then rooted by close nodding fronds.
A palette of colours describes a sunset.
A moment of sadness grey tinged with regret.
And framing this pageant a rich hue of gold.
Smooth wood embellished by intricate scrolls.
The words mere imagined, a picture described.
Formless, insubstantial, but in the mind's eye.
Clearing the mind the image then fades.
All that is left are words on a page.
