Your Dream - a poem

What is the colour of the dream
that your startled face told me
half asleep and a bit confused?
I'd been dreaming too
but had forgotton the pleasure
when you had called my name.

I can't remember what time it was
when you told me your dream
the pictures and words that you used,
but my dream was blue
when you called me and woke me
so I can't be sure if they were the same.

You'd been chased by elephants
in a supermarket
although not in a nightmarish way
but you were worried
because you hadn't paid
and it was Tuesday.

You raised yourself on your arm
and looked into my eyes.
The sheet slid of your back,
you frowned at my smile.
I tried to earnest,
a sympathetic listener.

You told me your dream in a worried voice,
I tried to imagine purple spacemen
pink miscellanea,
quickly forgetting
my dream
looking into your eyes.
