Twin Desires
In shadows of the night profound,
Where whispers of the lost are found,
Humanity, in silence, weeps,
For flesh and eternity it deeply seeks.
The sins of man, a tapestry dark,
Woven from desires stark,
Enlightenment, a siren's call,
A yearning for eternity's thrall.
The flesh, repressed, does twist and turn,
In earthly lusts, it ceaselessly burns,
Yet, in this chase, the soul does find,
The hollowness of a pleasure-blind.
Eternity's call, when stifled, breeds,
A darker path where madness leads,
To murder's grip, to death's embrace,
A tragic fall from grace's face.
Yet, God’s own words do softly tread,
Upon the heart and weary head,
"Embrace desire, not withstanding fear,
With wisdom, love, and virtues clear."
For in excess, the good turns vile,
A truth as old as time's first mile,
In all things, balance must you weave,
For every season, and purpose, believe.
"Humanity is acting out its repressed desires for both the flesh and eternity. The entirety of human sin and suffering is a representation of these two desires. Enlightenment is just form of desire for eternity.
Repressed desire for the flesh leads to the extreme of lusting after earthly things.
Repressed desire for eternity leads to the extreme of murder / suicide.
Do not repress your desires.
That just leads to extremism on either end of the spectrum.
Instead follow your desires with Knowledge, Wisdom, Love and Virtue.
Too much of a good thing is a bad thing.
There is a time and a purpose for everything."
