Honestly, I've been thinking about this a lot. For some reason we've been conditioned to think that heartbreak destroys us, that when someone leaves, or walks away, they leave us less than full.

But the thing is, we're always whole, even when we're broken.

And maybe we should honestly change the word choice - we're not broken, we're bruised - temporary - a fleeting moment of pain or loss or emptiness that won't last forever - and even in this, we're never any less than whole.

Love doesn't define us. It's in us, it's within us, it's a part of who we are and everything that we do, but a romantic relationship is not the epitome of why we are here.

And maybe when we think of romantic love, it's not about finding someone who can make things right. It's not about searching for love as an answer to a problem we're having, or as a band-aid on a heart that's still hurting. Perhaps, instead, romantic love is simply finding even more of ourselves in the arms of another person. It's becoming a better version of us, while we also build an us with someone else.

It's not looking for someone to fix us, change us, or heal us. But love us right where we are - messy, complicated, learning to trust again, overcoming the past hurt, and standing there saying "I love you too."
