Mellow me in a sun sandwich
ray blankets fit like a Snuggie
let me bake, croissant rising
in the oven of the heavens

and if you can't raise me,
bundle me in kindling and
light. me. up.

Fire is my witness
Heat is my savior
I belong to the sun
I belong to. I. long.

for the violence of sweat
induced by ultraviolet
beams toasting my skin

burrowing into my genetic
legacy of desert ancestors
sand-smoothed and camel top
brown goddess warriors.

legacy of desert ancestors
sand-smoothed and camel top
brown goddess warriors."
