Day 19 - The Battle of Three Armies

in poetry •  7 years ago

I.
The day seems eternal and the night, hiding in its quarters
Neighbors to the south welcome alien males
Travelling in wood, floating on waters
Surely, they must be ill for no man can look so pale

Trickery, deception, an essential resource discovered
Human labor so cheap, almost worthless
More of these sicklings return each moon uncovered
Taking more and more away effortless

This can neither be ethical nor moral
Something must be done to put this wave at bay
For far unto the sea, beyond the reef and coral
More lie in wait and ready to explore, only waiting to obey

II.
We refuse to trade our people for things easily given
We refuse to let our people suffer at their hands
We can hear their screams and wails through the walls even
And they rather gather to take what isn't theirs grandly

The only way to drive these idiots away is together
When you refuse to be cheated, they aim to destroy
Come let us show the sicklings who we are and not feather
We conquer the middle, this better than the battle of Troy

They come with sticks that throw balls
Surely, they have no balls to face their fate
We stand steadfast and tall
We are a proud people at a loosing rate

III.
Our men are fighting for us, dying for us
And we sit here doing nothing waiting for the sicklings to claim us
No! No! I say, No! We are stronger than we look
We venture out unto the battle field, proud and hooked

We are warriors, we are fighters, we are women
Freedom isn't only for men or is it for sicklings
We should not allow ourselves be oppressed even by men
Birthed by us, men were boys once, and fishes, fingerlings

I am Nana Yaa Asantewaa of the great Ashanti Kingdom
Let it be written down in the scrolls of history
That, we women, didn't sit idle to become mythical mystery
That we took charge and dominion fighting for freedom

Is good to be seeing something like this....it tells us how our great forefathers fought with their blood.
What can we so do to leave the right legacy

Very good question. I read something great from @osmansnr on people searching for greener pastures. (Click here to read). It seems as if no one wants to suffer for others to gain but that's not the example our forefathers left for us.

I think the least we can do is to keep that dream alive. Strive to make it a reality. A dream that blood was spilled over. A dream, that Ghana will be a free prosperous nation so at least, our children and their children will have greener pastures and be proud of their heritage.

She is a true definition of a warrior, she will forever remain in our hearts and our history books.
A new way to retell our history, Ghanaian history.

Nice write up @skodie

Our history is a great part of who we are as Ghanaians. We are proud of it and learn valuable lessons from it.

Her prowess wasn't just on the battlefield but also in life. She fought for herself and her gender at a time when they were least reverred. We can all learn a thing or two from her.

Thanks for the read

A true definition of a warrior, maybe even the wonder woman of her days. Either ways many women could be like her in our days.

We live in a time where wonen have more advantages than the old days yet they sit and say the world isn't fair. Taking a page from this great martyr, our women should rise up and take the world by storm.

She's a great inspiration to all. Even those of us who aren't women.

Great piece. Your choice of words is excellent.
Women are much more than we tend to give them credit for. Thanks for sharing.

You're welcome. Just as every spear has a piercing end, it has a shaft that tells it where and how to go. It also makes a great weapon.

We tend to underestimate women far too much and yet our history disagrees

this poetry is good. Keep it up @skodie

Thanks a lot. I intend to

Women!

Of course... If this didn't get to you, I wonder what will. 😂
She inspires us all though. Great woman

😂
